All God’s Children
Camp Occohannock s proud to serve All God’s Children through camp each summer.
As a ministry of the Virginia Annual Conference, All God’s Children Camp is a week long overnight camp for children ages 7 to 12, with an incarcerated parent. Campers have an opportunity to participate in all the physical activities the camp has to offer such as boating, swimming, hiking, archery, music, crafts, Bible study, along with a conflict resolution/self esteem building class. AGCC is built on the basis of a one to one mentoring program where campers have an adult who walks alongside them for the week cheering them on, building them up and encouraging them daily. Partnering with Virginia United Methodist camps and other ACA camps across the state, All God’s Children Camp provides a week of sanctuary for children who face so many challenges in their lives such as economic poverty, temporary living conditions, loneliness, low self-esteem, violence and drugs along with while working to break the cycle of incarceration. All God’s Children Camp is a place where children learn they are fearfully and wonderfully made in the image of God and they are truly ‘somebody’!
Angel Tree Prison Fellowship
In addition to All God’s Children, Camp Occohannock partners directly with Angel Tree Ministry. That means that scholarship is available for any week of camp through our angel tree program.
Incarceration can strain family ties to the breaking point. Prison Fellowship Angel Tree provides an opportunity for local congregations to extend the hope of the Gospel and enfold Angel Tree families into church life through delivering Christmas gifts on behalf of incarcerated parents, sending kids to summer camp, facilitating one-day sports camps, and more.
Most importantly, Angel Tree invites and equips churches to enfold Angel Tree families into church life, resulting in mutually beneficial relationships of encouragement, growth, and support. Join Angel Tree to help meet the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of families in your community.
Harvest of Hope/Society of St Andrew
Each summer there is a week dedicated to the Harvest of Hope through the Society of St. Andrew. This is primarily a gleaning ministry, but has a number of other components in their mission. The goal of Harvest of Hope is to educate participants concerning the domestic and global hunger problem; encouraging them to make lifelong commitments to being part of the solution.
Sea Scouts
Camp Occohannock and the Sea Scouts have partnered up to strengthen our youth Sailing and Boating program on the Eastern Shore.
Sea Scouting is a program of the Boy Scouts of America for young men and women ages 14 to 20. For over 100 years Sea Scouting has promoted better citizenship and improved members’ boating skills through instruction and practice in water safety, boating skills, outdoor, social, service experiences, and knowledge of our maritime heritage.
Walk to Emmaus
The walk to Emmaus is an experience of Christian spiritual renewal and formation that begins with a three-day short course in Christianity. It is an opportunity to meet Jesus Christ in a new way as God’s grace and love is revealed to you through other believers. The Walk to Emmaus experience begins with the prayerful discernment and invitation from a sponsor. After one accepts this invitation they complete an application. The Emmaus leaders prayerfully consider each applicant and in God’s time, the person is invited to attend a three-day experience of New Testament Christianity as a lifestyle. Following the three-day experience, participants are joined in small groups to support each other in their ongoing walk with Christ.
Through the formational process of accountable discipleship in small groups and participation in the Emmaus community, each participant’s individual gifts and servant-leadership skills are developed for use in the local church and its mission. Participants are encouraged to find ways to live out their individual call to discipleship in their home, church, and community. The objective of Emmaus is to inspire, challenge, and equip the local church members for Christian action in their homes, churches, communities and places of work. Emmaus lifts up a way for our grace-filled lives to be lived and shared with others.
